Shugga Shoppe’s Guide to the Perfect MATTE Lip

Step 1 Exfoliate

This step is probably as important as choosing the perfect shade. Applying lipstick on chapped lips only makes the uneven surfaces more visible. Gently exfoliating your lips will ensure seamless application and enhance the overall look. Try a homemade lip scrub using ingredients in your pantry in the recipe below.

• 1 tablespoon of Coconut Oil/Olive Oil
• 2 tablespoons of sugar/ brown sugar
• 1 tablespoon of honey

Step 2 Moisturize

Now that your lips are as smooth as butter it is now time to moisturize! Matte Lipsticks can be drying so you would want to hydrate them prior to your application.

Step 3 Mattify

This step is optional, however patting your lips with your foundation or concealer not only mattifies, but it makes for a smoother application and also helps to hold the product in place. It is much easier to paint with a fresh canvas than not.

Step 4 Line

When working with liquid lipstick you must work fast because it does not take long for it to set. A regular matte lipstick is more forgiving. Outlining your lips with a coordinating liner provides a guide for application and prevents feathering/bleeding outside of the lip line.

Step 5 Apply

Your lips are now prepped, primed and ready. I hope you have already chosen your winning color because it is time to apply. Start with the bottom lip and work your way to the top carefully within the liner. If a second coat is needed allow for the first application to set.
